Inspired By an Entrepreneur
A few days ago my mother invited me to visit a business owner that she was referred to by a friend. This entrepreneur is an esthetician who offers facials and hair treatments. Reluctantly I agreed but was I ever glad I did…and it had nothing to do with the hair treatment I received.
From time to time as I get busy with projects I forget about the excitement and fulfillment I get from being part of the entrepreneurial movement in this country. It wasn’t the money that got me hooked 18 years ago, it was the sense of independence, control and freedom to manage and serve my own part of the marketplace.
Of course the money is important and allows me to do the things I love, but for many of us choosing to become an entrepreneur isn’t about becoming a millionaire. It’s about living.
The woman I met a few days ago wasn’t focused on being a millionaire – she was focused on managing the mortgage payments for her new home. She was focused on being accessible to her two young boys who are in elementary school. She was focused on being a contributing partner for her husband who had just switched careers to become an optician and new eyeglass store owner.
Both of them are under 40 and are about the most up-beat people you’d want to meet. They’re not wealthy and I can see there were things they were doing without in order to make sure their life and business priorities were attended to. But they weren’t complaining. They were too busy giving good service, encouraging others to spread the word about their businesses and enjoying the conversation and sharing that comes with connecting with others as customers, clients–people.
If you live in the U.S., Canada, parts of the Caribbean, South America or Europe, you likely have access to various thriving small business resources and communities. With the failure of start-up businesses in the healthy double digits, there is still many resources out there to help new entrepreneurs to make a successful go of it.
I encourage you to seek out mentors and peer groups where you live or online since in many cases there are options and resources you aren’t aware of that could make a difference in whether you succeed or not with your venture.
If you haven’t signed up to become a Biz Facts Online subscriber yet, I encourage you to do so now as we’ll be sending out helpful small business resources to our list. The subscriber box is in the top right hand corner of the page.
To your success,
Sharon

Sharon I am loving your posts here!
You know for years I think I was stuck in the “make money, make money, make lots and lots o money” mentality and when it didn’t come in bags as some people make you believe it will I got frustrated and tried something new then something else.
All the while I wasn’t paying attention to what I really wanted. It wasn’t until I was completely overwhelmed, stressed out and had a bit of an internet marketing intervention from my family that I finally started thinking about what was REALLY important.
Anyway, you’re a great writer! If you ever want to guest blog on over at Marketers Mojo I’d love to have you
